Kenyu Sugimoto

Kenyu Sugimoto (杉本 健勇, Sugimoto Kenyu, born November 18, 1992) is a Japanese football player. He played for the Japan national team.

Biography

Sugimoto was born in Osaka on November 18, 1992. He joined J1 League club Cerezo Osaka from their youth team in July 2010. He debuted in July 2011. In March 2012, he moved to J2 League club Tokyo Verdy on loan. He returned to July. Although he played many matches, Cerezo was relegated to J2 end of the 2014 season. In 2015, he moved to Kawasaki Frontale. In 2016, he moved to J2 club Cerezo Osaka again. In 2016, he scored 14 goals and Cerezo was promoted to J1 from 2017. In 2017, he scored 22 goals and was selected Best Eleven. Cerezo also won the champions in the J.League Cup and Emperor's Cup. In 2019, he moved to Urawa Reds.

In October 2009, Sugimoto was selected the Japan U-17 national team for 2009 U-17 World Cup. He played all 3 matches and scored a goal against Brazil in the first match. In October 2012, he was selected the Japan U-23 national team for 2012 Summer Olympics. He played 4 matches and Japan won the 4th place. In September 2017, Sugimoto was selected the Japan national team for 2018 World Cup qualification. At this qualification, he debuted against Saudi Arabia on September 5. He played 8 games and scored 1 goal for Japan until 2018.
