urolithiasis
English
Etymology
From international scientific vocabulary, using New Latin combining forms, from uro- + lithiasis = urolith + -iasis = uro- + lith + -iasis.
Noun
urolithiasis (countable and uncountable, plural urolithiases)
- (biology, medicine) Formation of, and thus also presence of, calculi in the urinary tract.
Coordinate terms
- nephrolithiasis (sensu stricto, coordinate, but in practice any stone passed in the urine may be called a kidney stone, as the locus of its formation may not yet be known; and thus many mentions of urolithiasis and nephrolithiasis are loosely synonymous, which is to say, not precisely differentiated)
Translations
calculi in the urinary tract
