spullen
Luxembourgish
Etymology
From Middle High German spüelen, from Proto-West Germanic *spōlijan. The original forms were spillen, gespullt with Rückumlaut (compare Ripuarian spöle, jespolt). The u-vowel was then generalized in all forms to avoid the homophony with unrelated spillen (“to play”).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈʃpulən]
Verb
spullen (third-person singular present spullt, past participle gespullt, auxiliary verb hunn)
