From re- + a derivative of Latin luscus (“one-eyed”); alternatively from Proto-Celtic *lowksko-, from Proto-Celtic *lowko- (“bright, light”). Compare lóstrego.[1] Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (“to shine”).
