oligotrophic (comparative more oligotrophic, superlative most oligotrophic)

  1. (physiology, of a diet) deficient in nutrition (providing little nourishment)
  2. (biology, of a body of water) being poor in nutrients and minerals and therefore not having an excessive growth of algae and thus a no diminished oxygen content to other organisms.
    Antonym: eutrophic
  3. (geography, of a wetland) deficient in plant nutrients, such as nitrogen or phosphorus.
