Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *tʃ-rn-ɛh, the *-rn- (instrumental derivative) infixed form of Proto-Vietic *tʃɛh, whence Modern Vietnamese xỉa (“to pick; to jab”). Also related to Vietnamese chĩa (“pitchfork”) and to Chinese 杈 (MC tsrheaH).
