From Proto-Albanian *leitsa, from Proto-Indo-European *ley- (“to pour”). Cognate to Lithuanian líeti (“pour”), Ancient Greek ἄλεισον (áleison, “wine container”), Latin litus (“beach, seaside, seashore”), Old Church Slavonic лити (liti, “to pour”) and Old Norse līð (“beer”).
