kapiskál

Hungarian

Etymology

Borrowed from Italian capisco (first-person singular present of capire (to understand)) and Venetian capiso (first-person singular present of capir (to understand)), from Latin capiō (to take in, understand). Probably introduced by Hungarian soldiers stationing in northern Italy. Influenced by kapiál (to understand, comprehend) (archaic), also from Latin capiō (to take in, understand).[1] Compare German kapieren (to understand). Doublet of kapacitás.
