Etymology 1

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *yu¹ (to take), ultimately from Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Burmese ယူ (yu, to take), Sichuan Yi (yu, to grab), Horpa zu (to take), Nusu ʑu⁵⁵ (to take) and Naxi yuq (to take). Compare with Lhao Vo yu , Zaiwa yu, Hpon yú-ŋ and Lianghe Achang ʑu⁵⁵.
