Etymology
Compound of jalan (“road”) + layang (“float”), literally “floating road”, coined by Indonesian linguist Anton Moedardo Moeliono. Compare to Japanese 高架道路 (kōkadōro, “elevated road”), Chinese 高架道路 (gāojià dàolù, “elevated road”).
