hända

See also: Handa, handa, hånda, and hænda

Swedish

Etymology

From Old Swedish hænda, from Old Norse henda, from Proto-Germanic *handijaną.

Pronunciation

  • (file)

Verb

hända (present händer, preterite hände, supine hänt, imperative händ)

  1. to happen; chiefly what happens quickly or for a short time

Usage notes

  • Present participle is rarely used. For adjectival use it is almost always replaced with som händer (literally which happens) (preceded by the noun or pronoun), and for nominal use it is normally replaced with händelse. Swedish does not use the present participle for the continuous aspect.
