Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كچنلرده (geçenlerde),[1][2] from كچمك (geçmek),[3] equivalent to geç- (“to pass through, by, into”) + -en (adjectival participle suffix) + -ler (plural suffix) + -de (locative suffix), literally “in the ones that have passed”.
