Inherited from Vulgar Latin root *flacula, from Latin facula (“little torch”), from fax (“torch”), or possibly influenced by Latin flamma. Probably a doublet of fachie. Compare Italian fiaccola. Compare also Albanian flakë, Gallo-Italic of Sicily ciàccara (“torch”)
