Etymology
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اول آخر (evvel āḫir),[1] from Arabic أَوَّل (ʔawwal) and آخِر (ʔāḵir),[2][3] equivalent to evvel (“before, first”) + ahir (“after, last”). Cognates with Azerbaijani əvvəl-axır, Turkmen owal-ahyr.
