Tocharian B
Etymology
From Proto-Tocharian *erkent (whence also Tocharian A arkant), but from there uncertain. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₁regʷ- (“to be dark”) (cognate with Ancient Greek Ἔρεβος (Érebos), Old Norse røkkr (“twilight”), etc.) or Proto-Indo-European *h₂erǵ- (“white, shining”) (cognate with Latin argentum and semantically akin to English black <> bleach).
Usage notes
- This word was often used as a compound, as Tocharian B was particularly agglutinative.
