Etymology
A derivative of dredh, with -izë suffix (cf. ndrizë). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *dri-(dźiā), from Proto-Indo-European *derǵʰ- (“to hold, to be firm”). Collective with the suffix -zë. Cognate to Sanskrit दृंहति (dṛ́ṃhati, “he makes firm”), Proto-Slavic *dьržati (“to hold”).
