From Proto-Albanian *driθ-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrisdʰ- ((kind of) cereals; barley). Possibly cognate with Ancient Greek κριθή (krithḗ, barley) and Old High German gersta (barley). Probably an old Wanderwort.[1]
