From Old High German donarstag, from Proto-West Germanic *Þunras dag (literally day of the thunder god), a calque of Latin dīes Iovis (Thursday, literally day of Jupiter). Cognate with German Donnerstag, Dutch donderdag, English Thursday, Swedish torsdag.
