Etymology
From Old High German donarstag, from Proto-West Germanic *Þunras dag (literally “day of the thunder god”), a calque of Latin dīes Iovis (“Thursday”, literally “day of Jupiter”). Cognate with German Donnerstag, Dutch donderdag, English Thursday, Swedish torsdag.
