From Middle Irish cúa (“cavity, hollow”), from Old Irish cúas (“hollow”), possibly from Proto-Celtic *kow-sto-, from *kuwo-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱowh₁ós (“hollow”), from *ḱewh₁- (“to swell”).
