Etymology

A dissimilated variant of "quand même" caused by the two successive nasal sounds /ɑ̃m/ (Parisian French : [ɒ̃m]). [ɒ̃] denasalised into the very close sound /ɔ/ instead of [ɒ], which does not occur in the language, and the whole was reinterpreted as "comme même", despite the non-doubling of /m/.
