Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بالعكس (bilʿaks, bilʿakis, on the contrary),[1][2] from Arabic بِالْعَكْس (bi-l-ʕaks), from بِـ (bi-) + اَلْ (al-) + عَكْس (ʕaks),[3] equivalent to bil- + akis (reflection).
