Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اج بیعلاج (ac bi-ilāc), from آج (ac, aç) and بیعلاج (bi-ilāc), from Persian بیـ (bê-, bi-, -less) + Arabic عِلَاج (ʕilāj, remedy, cure),[1][2] equivalent to (hungry) + biilaç (remedyless, cureless).
