Etymology
From Old Norse Trums (“Tromsøya”), possibly from straumr (“stream, current, tide”), from Proto-Germanic *straumaz (“stream, current, river”), from Proto-Indo-European *srowmos, *strow-mo-s, from *srew- (“to flow, stream”), possibly from *ser- (“to flow”). Dropping the initial S- may be due to Sami influence. Doublet of Troms.
