Proto-West Germanic
Etymology
From Proto-Germanic *pinnaz, of obscure origin. Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *bendno-, from *bend- (“to jut, protrude, stick out; peak”). Alternatively, from Proto-Indo-European *spey- (“sharp point”).
