Etymology

From *těskъ (pressing) + *-nъ with loss of *-k- between *s and *n (compare Proto-Slavic *ěsnъ (clear)). Probably from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂y- (to dunk, to knead), akin to Proto-Slavic *tajati (to melt, to precipitate).
