Etymology
From earlier *karabja, borrowed from Ancient Greek καράβιον (karábion) or κάραβος (kárabos, “boat, crab, beetle”) (Modern Greek καράβι (karávi, “ship, boat”)). Could have been influenced by or confused with *korbъ (“basket”).
According to ESSJa, from adjective *korb-jo-, from *korbъ.
