Etymology
Possibly an expressive variant of Proto-Slavic *kъrčь (“spasm”) or alternatively[1] from Proto-Indo-European *ger- (“to bend, to twine”) + *-čь, akin to Proto-Slavic *gъrbъ (“hump”).
