From Proto-Balto-Slavic *dwára (“doorway”), turning masculine by Illič-Svityč's rule, from earlier *dwáran, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwór-o-m, from *dʰwer- (“door”). Compare Latin forum, Old English dor.
