Etymology

Formed as *bujь (vivid, outraged) + *-iti, reflecting Proto-Indo-European *bʰowH-éye-ti ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰewH- (to inflate, to grow). May have been influenced by the onomatopoeric Proto-Indo-European *bew- (to blow, to storm) (compare Proto-Slavic *buřa (storm), Proto-Slavic *buševati (to bluster, to storm)).
