Etymology
From *čermъxa (“hagberry”) because of the strong aroma. Also found in dialectal Lithuanian kermùšė (“ramson”), Proto-West Germanic *hramusō (“ramson”), Old Irish crem (“ramson”), Ancient Greek κρόμμῠον (krómmuon), κρόμυον (krómuon, “onion”), and borrowed from Iranian into Proto-Turkic *sarmïsak (“garlic”)..
