Etymology
According to Nikolaev / Starostin, inherited from Proto-Northeast Caucasian, with such cognates as Tabasaran мархь (marx), Lezgi марф (marf), Dargwa марка (marka, “rain”).
Note also Georgian მარახული (maraxuli), Old Armenian մառախուղ (maṙaxuł).
