From Proto-Indo-European *duh₂-ró-s (“long, far”), from *dweh₂-. Cognate with Ancient Greek δηρός (dērós, “long”), Hittite [script needed] (tūwa, “distant, far”), Latin dūrus, Old Armenian երկար (erkar, “long, extended”).
