Etymology
From *standaną (zero-grade stem *staþ/d-) + *-þiz. A specifically Germanic secondary re-creation of inherited ti-stem *sta-diz f (not zero-grade i-stem *stad-iz m), which properly belonged to *stāną (zero-grade stem *sta-).
