π°ππππ°ππ
Gothic
Etymology
From π°π- (af-, βoff-β) +β *πππ°ππ (*stass, β[act of] standingβ) or from π°ππππ°π½π³π°π½ (afstandan) +β -πΈπ (-ΓΎs); thus literally, "[act of] standing apart", in its attested uses in the Gothic Bible specifically a separation from an earlier state of affairs. Renders Koine Greek αΌΟΞΏΟΟΞ±ΟΞ―Ξ± (apostasΓa) and αΌΟΞΏΟΟΞ¬ΟΞΉΞΏΞ½ (apostΓ‘sion), of which it may be at least a partial calque or semantic loan.
