Proto-Germanic
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈduŋ.ɡi.jɔ̃ː/
Etymology 1
Uncertain. Perhaps from *dungō (“earth, dung”) + *-jǭ. Kroonen, however, derives this via an intermediary verb *dungijaną (“to fertilise”). See Proto-West Germanic *dungijan.
