Etymology
Unknown. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰm̥bʰ- (“to dig”), if the original meaning was "dyke created by excavating earth," see also Ancient Greek τάφος (táphos, “tomb”), ταφή (taphḗ), θάπτω (tháptō, “bury”).[1]
