Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Permic [Term?], borrowed from Proto-Iranian *wacáh (yearling calf), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wet- (year). Other Uralic words from the same source include Proto-Samic *vuosē, Erzya ваз (vaz, calf), Moksha ваз (vaz, calf).[1] The Iranian word was also separately borrowed into Mansi (e.g. Northern Mansi [script needed] (wāsiɣ, moose calf)).
