Hengforden
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as hengorden around 1300. Etymology uncertain. Unlikely to be a compound of a term cognate to hangen (“hang”) (here designating an incline) and voorde (“ford, crossing”). The second element may be woerd (“artificial hill meant for habitation”). Compare Hengelder, Hengelo and Hengevelde.
