Etymology
From fallen (“to fall”) + Sucht (here in the old sense “illness, disease”), thus the same as English falling sickness. Compare also Arabic صَرْع (ṣarʕ), equally derived from a word for “to fall”. From the fits which cast the patients to the ground.
