Everse
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as eversche and evershude in 1404. Etymology unknown. Some attestations appear to suggest a derivation from a compound of ever (“boar, male pig”) and schot (“enclosed space, fenced-in land”) or schoot (“piece of land that juts upward”), but this hypothetical compound does not match the oldest attestations.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈeː.vər.sə/
