Bilgaard
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as bolgaerd in 1440. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian *Bullinga (“a surname”) and werd (“terp, artificial mound used for habitation”). A reading of the first element as bol (“rounded elevated place”) is less likely. Compare Wijtgaard.
