Etymology
Two possibilities exist. May be a variant of -ոտ (-ot), derived from *հուտ (*hut), an alternative form of հոտ (hot). Alternatively, from supposed Proto-Indo-European *-ōd-ēs with Ancient Greek -ώδης (-ṓdēs) as a cognate; compare ἀμαθώδης (amathṓdēs, “sandy”) from ἄμαθος (ámathos, “sand”).
