Etymology

From 𐫍𐫀𐫖- (hʾm-, “con-, together”) +‎ 𐫍𐫏𐫡𐫉𐫏𐫅 (hyrzyd, “to let, leave, abandon”),[1] from Proto-Iranian *hr̥játi, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárȷ́ati (for the prefix, see Proto-Indo-European *sem-). Compare Old Armenian համհարզ (hamharz, “adjutant”), an Iranian borrowing.[2]
