From Middle Iranian *āfrīnam or Middle Persian 𐭠𐭯𐭥𐭩𐭭 (āfrīn, “praise, blessing”): compare Old Armenian աւրհնեմ (awrhnem), Avestan 𐬁𐬟𐬭𐬍𐬥𐬁𐬨𐬌 (āfrīnāmi, “I praise”), Persian آفرین (âfarin).
