From Proto-Iranian *dr̥Hgáh (compare Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬔𐬀 (darəga, “long”)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dr̥Hgʰás (compare Sanskrit दीर्घ (dīrghá)), from Proto-Indo-European *dl̥h₁gʰós (compare Latin longus, Old Church Slavonic дльгъ (dlĭgŭ)).
