Etymology

Of native Korean origin. Contraction of earlier 좆 나 게 (jot na-ge, “so the penis comes out”), implying an erection. Not even the uncontracted form is attested before the 1980s. Some scholars have suggested that this originated in South Korean army slang (Cho Hang-beom 2019, pp. 354—356).
