Korean
Etymology 1
First attested in the Hunminjeong'eum haerye (訓民正音解例 / 훈민정음해례), 1446, as Middle Korean 담〮 (Yale: tám).
Possibly ultimately borrowed from Turkic language, compare Old Turkic 𐱃𐰢 (tam, “wall”); under the discredited Altaic hypothesis, these are considered cognates instead. otherwise it might have be borrowed into Turkic from Korean since steppe people were rather nomadic. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
