Etymology

Coined by Japanese philosopher Inoue Tetsujirō in 1881 in his work 哲学字彙 (Tetsugaku Jii, Dictionary of Philosophy) as a translation of English becoming, based on the phrase 轉化推移,得一之道,而以少正多 in the Huainanzi (淮南子).[1]
