     The similarity between The Cheese and the Worms and Inheriting Power: The Story of an Exorcist is that both illustrate a problem or elucidate a meaning through one person (the miller and the exorcist).

     Shǒuxiān, fúmóshī xiàng zháomó de rén sǎ shèngshuǐ, zhè tōngcháng huì yǐnqǐ èmó de kuángluàn de fāzuò hé chōuchù; jiēzhe, fúmóshī niànsòng yī cháng duàn de qídǎowén, “Shèngjīng” zhōng de huà huì bèi dàshēng de lǎngdú; qícì, fúmóshī yínchàng shèngtú de liándǎowén; zuìhòu, jiàoshì dàshēng duì èmó shuō: “Yǐ Shàngdì de míngyì, hé nǐ suǒyǒu xié'è de gōngzuò hé qǐtú yīqǐ líkāi zhège Shàngdì de púrén, bùyào zài shānghài tā hé tā de cáichǎn.” [Pinyin]

     First, the exorcists sprinkled holy water on the demon-possessed person, which would usually elicit frantic fits and convulsions from the demons. Then, the exorcists recited lengthy prayers, and words from the Bible were read aloud. Next, the exorcists chanted a litany of saints. Finally, the priests shouted at the demons, saying, "In the name of God, depart with all thy noxious and accursed works and attempts from this servant of God, nor presume longer to injure him and his property."

     Diagnosis was usually done by people who have secret powers and the ability to communicate with ghosts, as well as sufficient ability to overcome and drive them out, such as witch doctors, sorcerers, shamans and exorcists.
