Etymology

Thought to be derived from Sanskrit अर्बुद (arbuda, sore, tumor). Supposedly, was first used by Buddhist monks (as 頞部陀(あぶだ) (abuda)) in reference to Arbuda (the Buddhist hell of chilblains).[1]
